Driven by strength of innovation, the life sciences industry is one of the strongest industrial sectors in Switzerland. Digital health technologies are rapidly changing the practice of medicine, the development of medical devices, and the doctor-patient relationship.
The establishment of digital health startups ensures that the results of breakthrough research are transformed into innovative medical products and treatments. But the transition from “researcher” to “entrepreneur” or from “scientist to CEO” can be challenging, demanding a rare blend of skills, competences, and entrepreneurial know-how that’s often not provided by the life sciences curricula offered at Swiss and European universities. As a result, while the digital health market is booming, a high percentage of eHealth startups are not successful in the mid or long term.
Released last week, “eHealth Entrepreneurship: How to start and grow a digital health startup” is the latest publication from Congenius and USI Lugano helping eHealth startups to bridge the gap between life sciences academia and entrepreneurship to successfully launch, develop, and sustain their emerging businesses.
A collaboration between our Congenius Founder Jörg Dogwiler and the Centre of Advanced Studies on Entrepreneurship in BioMedicine (CASE BioMed) at USI Lugano, the book is a curation of knowledge and practical advice provided by a skilled set of MedTech and BioTech experts spanning industry and academia.
Readers are invited to either enjoy the text cover-to-cover, or select the chapters most relevant to them, with the topics covered including technology platforms in eHealth, product marketing, business planning and operations, funding opportunities, venture capital, intellectual property, data privacy, cybersecurity, reimbursement, business development and more.
The publication forms part of CASE BioMed’s broader eHealth business programme, which also encompasses a one-week comprehensive training for digital health startups. This advanced training on eHealth Entrepreneurship launched in 2021, and provides young and future entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to tackle the critical issues vital for their companies to establish a strong position in the market, preparing the basis for future growth.
