From start-up to exit: Expert advice on Bio & MedTech Entrepreneurship from our CEO

The process of innovation in life sciences is capital intensive – associated with high risk and strict regulations. In this regard it is distinct from other types of innovation.

In 2018, Dr. Heidrun Flaadt-Cervini, Director of the Centre of Advanced Studies on Entrepreneurship in BioMedicine (CASE BioMed, Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of USI), and our own CEO and Founder Jörg Dogwiler successfully collaborated to produce “Bio- and MedTech Entrepreneurship”, a book that serves as a comprehensive compilation resource to help those seeking a career in a life science start-up.

After the excellent response obtained from the first edition, Flaadt-Cervini and Dogwiler have teamed up once again to produce a second edition that provides further advice and information.

“Bio- and MedTech Entrepreneurship: From start-up to exit” fills a market niche by seeking to close the educational gap in life science entrepreneurship. It provides practical advice for the reader to understand, manage and successfully lead the innovation process in the life sciences field. The textbook gives an overview of what it takes to set up and finance Bio or MedTech companies and highlights crucial aspects on how to create a life science company.

Written by 30 international authors, most of whom are serial entrepreneurs, industry experts or investors, the book represents the synthesis of the years of experience gained at USI in the context of BioBusiness and MedTech Business, advanced training programs dedicated to young entrepreneurs and young entrepreneurs in the life sciences sector.

If you`re a Bio- or MedTech entrepreneur, manager, investor, technology transfer specialist or life sciences student, the book will provide you with a useful resource to help you:

  • Learn how to develop and successfully market Bio-medical technology
  • Increase the return of your investments in Bio-medical innovation
  • Discover how to transfer a Bio- or MedTech project from academia to industry
  • Obtain a comprehensive overview of the innovation process in life science

With a touch of humour lending a lighter perspective, the book is an easy read, that manages to balance varied perspective with pragmatic advice for those looking to be prepared for a new career in a life science start-up.  The second edition is now available both in print and as an e-book, and is available to purchase here.
